Reducing Risk

Reducing Risk

While reducing the risk of living in coastal Louisiana (or anywhere for that matter) to a perfect level of protection cannot be achieved, there are significant steps that both government, private industry and individuals can take to make coastal Louisiana, our businesses and our homes more resilient from future incidences. While levees and floodwalls are not enough on their own to reduce risk and protect our communities they are still an essential piece of flood risk reduction. Other essential infrastructures for community resiliency are pumping stations and highway systems. And finally, a more intangible piece is citizen engagement. Citizens must be aware of the risks of where they live, and if they are able they must take steps to elevate their home and to coordinate an evacuation route for themselves and their family.
